What to Expect
In short, a learning adventure unlike any other. And a way to run up your sea miles, gain experience, and have a helluva time! Sailing out beyond sight of land in deep water means pushing into some of the last, truly free places on planet Earth. To that end, we will focus on the following:
Preparation
You will receive detailed instructions on what items you’ll need, how to pack, and how to get yourself onboard with comfort and confidence.
Safety
All safety equipment, liferaft, and satellite electronics are in peak form. And with a robust, hard-won risk assessment framework and safety procedures in place, all challenges are handled by the book to minimize risk at all times. We will drill on all safety procedures and each crew member will become familiar with the protocols.
Seamanship
Onboard, you’ll have endless opportunities to put sailing theory into practice. All experience levels are welcome on Midnight Voyageur - novice sailors and old salts alike! Our voyages are “full participation” in nature and each crew member will have an opportunity to take part in everything that keeps the boat operating smoothly: route planning, meal preparation, weather routing, boat handling, navigation, satellite communications, safety procedures, and more.
Exploration
Our expeditions range from one to three weeks with a variety of experiences from tropical island hopping, to picturesque coastal cruising, to challenging bluewater passage making. We will also make the most of our time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and be on the watch for mother nature at her best; breathtaking sunsets, a whale surfacing, dolphins playing off the bow, a magical light show of bioluminescence in our wake that Disney couldn’t hope to replicate, standing midnight watch under a canopy of a billion stars, all while settling into the peace and pace of life at sea.

Anyone can teach you to tie a bowline. As a professional educator, communicator, and outdoor guide, Mike can do more – in addition to teaching all aspects of good seamanship, he sets the right tone onboard for real connection, self-reflection, and most importantly, a damn good time.
