Reviews from Crew Members

  • “Sailing the Irish coast with Mike was a very special experience for my 16-year old son and I. Mike is an experienced, conscientiousness, and extremely competent sailor—everything flows from that. He is also a generous host and mindful of everyone’s experience. We loved having tasks, responsibilities, and being able to contribute as crew members. Every second was its own wonderful moment—being under sail, exploring ports, evenings in pubs, small talk over coffee, extended time with family and friends. Living on Midnight Voyageur, and, of course, Ireland was awesome. ‘Wonder why we ever go home (Buffett)’”

  • "It's been one of my life's greatest adventures to sail with Mike Foley over the last 5 years. Mike is a very skilled captain, both in matters of sailing and steering the great ship of this mystery called life. The skills I develop through his coaching on the sailboat serve me daily in my profession as a diplomat where I often apply the nautical principles of patience, observance, perspective, surrender and razor sharp action when needed. In addition, the sail trips are a perfect blend of unbounded joy, good humor and access to the truest luxury available on this planet - wilderness!

  • “Sailing with Captain Mike in the San Juan Islands, Southern California, Mexico, Lake Superior and Portugal has been one of the great joys of my life. Mike’s first priority is always safety for all on board, followed closely by ensuring fun while taking in the beauty of this world. And Mike is a master at helping everyone on board, regardless of one’s limited sailing experience, be an important and capable crew member during every sailing adventure. What a gift Mike is!!”

  • “I’ve been fortunate enough to join Cap'n Mike on two of his ocean sailing adventures and made some incredible lifetime memories. We crossed the North Atlantic to the Azores and sailed the southwest coast of Ireland. My fellow crew members came from varied backgrounds including an artist, airline pilot, and a university professor; the eclectic mix of the crew certainly made for some fun conversations. Mike's 40ft sailboat, Midnight Voyageur, is very well-equipped with safety being the top priority. I look forward to sailing again with Professional Mariner, Cap'n Mike.”

  • “We had the opportunity to join one of Captain Mike’s week-long sailing adventures in Guadeloupe. We had the best time ever in this tropical paradise! Mike's seamanship and leadership skills were totally reassuring. We were on a beautiful yacht with a private cabin and felt secure and comfortable the entire trip. We also found time to participate as crew, explore exotic landfalls, and best of all – relax! Our advice? Don't pass up an opportunity to sail with Captain Mike."

  • “I’ve sailed with Captain Mike on passages that include Bermuda, Ireland, Scotland and New England. He’s a dedicated professional Captain that always places safety and crew first. Midnight Voyageur is a worthy blue water vessel and Mike has her rigged for all weather sailing. Where are we going next?”

  • “I had little sailing experience prior to joining Cap’n Mike on a trip up to the Isle of Skye in Scotland. When you sail with Mike, you’re part of the crew and you learn a lot about sailing while having wonderful conversations. The Midnight Voyageur is a beautiful boat and I had an uplifting, memorable experience aboard her.”

  • "Sailing down the coast of Scotland in rain and gale was about as wild and beautiful and thrilling as you might imagine it would be, but even amidst all the blowing rain and rolling waves coming in off the sea reach, Captain Mike kept a steady hand on the tiller and steered the Midnight Voyageur neatly down the lochs, and even into a sun beam or two. Captain Mike is as calm as he is knowledgeable, and he captains the boat so that the crew become confident in themselves. The Midnight Voyageur is comfortable, well accommodated and, as they say, trim-of-sail and ship shape. The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience and there’s no better way to experience the sea, even if she does blow cold Scottish rain in your face now and then; but anyways it's good for you. I look forward to joining the crew again!"

  • "We’ve been on sailing trips with Captain Mike for 20 years, and each trip has been unique and memorable. We’ve sailed the Puget Sound, Puerto Vallarta – Banderas Bay, Martha’s Vineyard, the Maine coast, New York Harbor, and the Scottish Hebrides. Mike is an excellent host and knows how to make sure everyone has an enjoyable time. His sailing skills are superb and he is able to explain to even novice sailors how the boat works and what they can do to contribute. The Midnight Voyageur is a beautiful boat and a wonderful home at sea. Thank you Captain Mike for all the unique trips and memories that will last a lifetime!"
